The Rolling Hitch

Description

The rolling hitch is a versatile knot that has many uses. One of the most practical is for exerting force along another line. For instance if a jib sheet jams in a winch, you can attach a rolling hitch to take the pressure off the line as you undo the jam.

Step by Step Instructions

Here is the line you wish to exert pressure along

Begin with a round turn in the direction of the strain

Then take another round turn in the same direction

Pass the line in front and away from the direction of strain

Make a turn passing the end between the standing part and the other line

Tighten and you're done
