Return to Camden and Say Good Byes

Sunrise at Pulpit Harbor

Sunrise at Pulpits Harbor, a dazzling finish befitting a week of good times!

As usual, Babs Humphries and Carolyn Farnsworth were the fleet's early risers, invariably beating the sun up every morning. On our last day, Carolyn captured this stunning picture of the sunrise while everyone else slept off his or her hangover from the previous night's revelry.

All good times end sooner or later. So we weighed anchor, unlashed the raft up, and we all motored off to Camden for a noontime return deadline. At first, there was no wind and motoring in was acceptable. Then around about 10:00, strong breezes kicked up out of the Southeast. The "Fascination" crew was really bummed, here they were turning in their boat even as a good wind was blowing! They couldn't stand the thought of returning their boat without one last sail. Breaking ranks with from the rest of the fleet, they hoisted sail and then zoomed around the bay for one last fling. They returned to Camden harbor by 11:20, with a just enough time budgeted to meet the noon deadline (sort of). With all three boats unloaded, it was time to say good bye to one another, and begin that long journey home.

Sunrise at Pulpit Harbor Post script: You might recall that we mentioned that the Day Star's dinghy had been lost in Castine. Happily, several days later a good Samaritan found it stranded only a few miles from Castine, and eventually the charter firm recovered the dinghy shortly after our trip was over.
