Let’s start with the premise that, although the voyage itself is often enjoyable, what truly makes a Sailing Club trip a success is what happens at the end of each day - the food, the camaraderie the socializing, the teasing….

We’ll board the boats on Friday evening before heading to one of Rock Hall’s fine eateries. Since this is the middle of the summer, what better way is there to finish the day than a stop for some homemade ice cream at Durding’s, a historic ice cream parlor?

On Saturday, after any last minute provisioning and final boat check-outs, we’ll sail across the bay about twelve nautical miles to the mouth of the Patapsco, and anchor in one of the cozy creeks that flank the river’s entrance. We’ll then have a traditional Sailing Club raft-up and appetizer party. As the sun doesn’t set until almost 8:00 o’clock, there should be plenty of time for water aerobics, synchronized swimming, or just floating.

After a leisurely breakfast on Sunday, we’ll weigh anchor and head northeast across the bay to Worton Creek, about eighteen nautical miles away, where slips have been reserved at Worton Creek Marina. The marina has many amenities for our enjoyment, including a swimming pool, air conditioned bath houses, and a picnic area with gas grills which we’ll use this evening for a barbecue dinner.

Monday’s sail will take us back to Rock Hall, about fifteen nautical miles, arriving about 4:00 pm. This should give everyone enough time to refuel, pump out, unload, clean up, swap stories and say our fond farewells. Perhaps one more visit to Durdling’s before leaving town?

Two boats have been reserved from Haven Charters. Both have three cabins and two heads, and while docked, air conditioning.

Please note that sailing conditions are dynamic,
that your safety, and that of your crewmates,
depends on your good physical health and agility.
