Lazy Summer Weekend

August 15 - 17, 2026
Early Board August 14

Rock Hall, MD

Summer in the Chesapeake has a bad reputation, but in recent years we’ve proved that it can be a delightful experience. We will likely have sunshine and some swimmable water in brackish creeks where the stinging fish varieties are less common. We may have light wind, but we could also have some great sailing weather. No matter what we’ll have great company and food, and a relaxing weekend.

Maynadier Creek anchorage

Bodkin Creek

On the afternoon of August 14 we’ll meet in Rock Hall. After the skippers have checked out the boats we’ll load on our gear and provisions and head out for dinner at one of the town’s several restaurants.

Saturday morning we’ll set sail across the bay to Bodkin Creek. This is a secure, beautiful anchorage. We’ll raft up and enjoy our traditional appetizer dinner.

On Sunday morning we’ll release the raft and head for the Bay for some sailing. When we’re ready, we’ll make our way up the Severn River.

Severn River Real Estate

The river is lined with interesting real estate that always has crew members doing some wishful shopping. If the wind cooperates we’ll be able to sail at least some of the way through the river’s twists and turns.

We’ll enter Little Round Bay and Mynadier Creek, which we visited in the fall of 2021. It is spectacularly peaceful. We’ll raft up again and after each boat enjoys their dinner we’ll have a traditional pub-style quiz night with prizes.

Monday morning it’s back down the river and across the Bay to Rock Hall. We’ll return the boats and be homeward bound by 4:00.

The Boats

We’ve chartered two sloops from Haven Charters in Rock Hall, Maryland. Both have three cabins and two heads. Each boat will have six people aboard.

The cost of this trip is $650.00 per person (Skippers and Trip Leader - $329.00). The price includes charter fees only. Fuel, provisioning, any mooring fees, pump-outs, and any other incidentals are additional and will be handled by each boat’s crew.

The deposit for this trip is $100.00. Please make your check payable to The Sailing Club, Inc. and mail it, along with your completed two-page Reservation/Release Form, to Mia McCroskey at the address below. Reservations will be processed beginning April 13, 2026 with a random draw of those received by that date. All reservations received after that date are on a first come, first served basis. The balance of $550.00 is due on July 1, 2026. The Club’s standard thirty-day cancellation policy applies for this event.

A pre-trip meeting will be held about two weeks before the trip, at a time and place to be announced. All crewmembers should make every effort to attend in order to meet your crewmates, plan your meals, and make travel plans.
